1. How do antibiotics disturb the balance of  the gut flora?

Antibiotics are used to stop the growth of certain disease-causing bacteria in the body. Unfortunately, this can also include the good bacteria in your intestines. When this happens, it can cause an imbalance in your instestinal flora, which can result in diarrhea⁶⁸.
